The Diabetic Foot Conference: what we learned (Sample)

Foot complications are among the most preventable consequences of diabetes, and among the most devastating when they are missed.

Prevention is a routine, not an event

The strongest message from the sessions was how much a simple, repeated check achieves. A five-minute examination at every visit catches the loss of sensation that precedes an ulcer.

Closing the referral gap

Delegates agreed the biggest gap is not knowledge but referral: patients are examined, a problem is noted, and then nothing happens. Clear pathways, and someone accountable for following them, matter more than any new equipment.
